I knew the layoff was coming, but I wasn\u2019t sure where I would go or what I would do for a living when Spring came around. I didn\u2019t even get to use up the vacation I had accrued to that point.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\">There was, however, one thing I wanted to do before I said my final goodbye to my coworkers. This activity was something I\u2019d planned when I took the job years back, and I later discovered a discount program for vacation experiences through our human resources system.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\">I cleared some balance off a credit card, and I booked an appointment to climb a skyscraper, aiming for the tallest observation deck in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"854f\"><em>30 Hudson Yards<\/em>&nbsp;is a massive skyscraper in Manhattan, located near Hell\u2019s Kitchen, New York City. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/30_Hudson_Yards\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Wikipedia<\/em><\/a>, the building is part of a revitalization project for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hudson_Yards,_Manhattan\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hudson Yards<\/a>&nbsp;district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"193b\">Wikipedia shows 30 Hudson Yards as the ninth-largest skyscraper in the United States. It also boasts the second-highest outdoor observation deck in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"3c0f\">According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgenyc.com\/city-climb\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>City Climb<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;website, it\u2019s the largest open-air climb in the United States. So, of course, I decided to burn a Saturday conquering it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"f545\">There\u2019s a train stop via the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/34th_Street%E2%80%93Hudson_Yards_station\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>MTA<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;at 34 Hudson Yards, Traveler. I drove and parked nearby, but a four- to five-hour trip in New York City usually costs around $30-$50. I believe I paid $45 on this particular day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"0a3d\">From there, it was a simple walk around the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vessel_(structure)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Vessel<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em>and into 30 Hudson Yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-font-family\" id=\"fa26\">Inside 30 Hudson Yards is a mall-type atmosphere with shops and a series of food courts.
